Press Release - August 2011 Approvals
29/08/11
LEADER approval for several projects in August 2011, including Hillswick Hall, Shetland Rugby Club, and two Shetland Islands Council projects
The following projects have successfully been awarded funding through the EU LEADER Programme by the Shetland Local Action Group on 25th August 2011:
Hillswick Hall: Hillswick Hall Development
Approval of £245,519, 65.6% of total project costs.
The aim of the project is to upgrade the Hillswick Hall both to meet current regulations regarding disabled access, including toilets, and kitchen facilities and also to provide a more comfortable, modern and user-friendly facility for the local community.
The Shetland Local Action Group decided to give Hillswick Hall priority in allocating the very limited budget that was transferred to LEADER in August 2010 for Community Facilities projects.
Shetland Rugby Club: Rugby Development Officer
Approval of £31,000, 49.21% of total project costs
The aim of the project is to employ a full time development officer to work with Shetland Islands Council Active Schools Programme, the NHS Healthy Living Programme and Scottish Rugby Union, to increase participation in rugby by all age groups.
Shetland Islands Council: You Choose – Youth Participatory Budgeting
Approval of £4,100, 50% of total project costs
The aim of this project is to empower young people aged between 12 and 25 to identify their needs, debate and prioritise new projects, bid for funding and allocate a budget in a democratic and transparent way.
Shetland Islands Council: Maximising External Funding
Approval of £4,375, 50% of total project costs
This is a 2-year pilot project, to purchase and manage external funding search engine software. This will include two separate but complementary funding database products, one of which will be hosted on the Shetland Islands Council website and the other an internal system which will be located in a number of key locations and departments throughout Shetland. Both will be free to use and available to organisations from the private, public, voluntary, community and learning sectors.
All approvals are subject to match funding and pre-conditions being met.
