The following project has successfully been awarded funding through the EU LEADER Programme by the Shetland Local Action Group on 5th May 2011:

Shetland Amenity Trust: Geopark Interpretation using new Technologies (and partnership project “HINT”)
The aim of this project is to: develop new and innovative ways of interpreting Shetland’s rich natural, cultural and geographical heritage using a range of media and making the information available in a portable format.

The project will involve developing a map-based application for iphone and/or other Smartphones linked with phone GPS systems.

It will introduce users to ‘Geopark Shetland’, and allow users to access text and audio, visual and graphic content based around Shetland’s key geosites.

This project will form part of a wider transnational project with partners from another Geopark in North Pennines UK and aspiring Geoparks in Hondsrug, Netherlands and Chablais, France, each one developing their own Heritage Interpretation using New Technologies (HINT).

Approval of £63,000, 70% of total project costs.

All approvals are subject to match funding and pre-conditions being met.
